Happy December!

It’s December!  Yay!  I almost enjoy these casual days preceding the holiday week more than the holiday week itself.  Almost…

I’m still not sure how it’s December already but the calendar tells me it is.  I am making a promise to myself this year that I will enjoy each and every one of these December days of Advent, and not succumb to any feelings of stress.  Easier said than done?  I hope not.

I have finished with Christmas doll ensemble making for this year.  My final sets will be in my little online shop Sunday night at 7:00 pm CST.  Here is a little preview for you.

Lovely and sweet Rose (Boneka/Effner) has a second festive set to show you for the year.    She is dressed in a cotton Japanese print dress with English cotton Cluny lace hemline edging.  A cardigan hand knit in merino/silk lace yarn with bullion heart and lazy daisy neckline embroidery keeps her toasty warm.  A Peruvian Highland wool stocking cap adds the necessary merriment to her look.  And Rose has a gift for you, a tiny Christmas tree with a mother-of-pearl heart for the tippy top.  Won’t you accept Rose’s gift this season?

Did you know that Amelia Thimble fits in perfectly with 1:12 dollhouse miniatures?  Here she is on an ornament with Ivy from Warm Heart Bears.  They’re just a wee bit adorable, don’t you think?

Amelia Thimble is spreading holiday cheer by jingling her jingle bell whenever she feels like it, which is quite often, I might add.  Between her and Sugar jingling away, my studio has never sounded cheerier.

Ivy reluctantly gave Amelia Thimble back her Santa hat; after all it’s part of this hand made set.

The jingle bell comes with the set too.  It fits over Amelia’s hand and will not easily slip off.  If you’d like to knit your own tiny dress for your Amelia Thimble or as an ornament, here is the link to the pattern.

Sugar (Fairyland Pukipuki) is looking mighty adorable this year too.  Sugar is pulling a miniature sleigh filled with all kinds and colors of jingling bells.  If you need a bell this year, Sugar has one for you.  Sugar’s ensemble includes her sweater dress and Santa hat. BTW, the jingle bell at the tip of her hat clings to her magnetic palm.

Here is a photo from a previous year just so you can see how much Sugar and Amelia Thimble love one another.  (Sugar also fits in well with miniatures and Christmas ornaments.)

Wishing you all a sweet start to December!  Enjoy, my friends!

“Holiday Hugs” for Rose, “Merry Li’l Elf” for Amelia Thimble, and “Jingle All The Way” for Pukipuki will all be available Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm CST, cindyricedesigns.com.

Santa’s Helpers

I presently have six different dolls all dressed up in Christmas ensembles, and the poor things have nowhere to go.  How about posing for some photos, girls?  Let’s show everyone how cute you all are.  Say cheese!

Even though all six dolls are of different proportions and sizes, I think they all look adorable together, don’t you, too?

While the girls were modeling, I put them to “work” by having them add some Christmas spirit to my studio.  Sugar (Fairyland Pukipuki) and Amelia Thimble brought around the jingle bells so that we all can add our own holiday ring-a-linging.  Patience and Millie (by Kaye Wiggs) made tiny everlasting snowmen, and Rose (Boneka/Effner) brought some  “heart” into the mix.  Ivy, a handmade mohair bear from Warm Heart Bears showed she had some real paper cutting skills.  How cute are those paper snowflakes!  Great job, Ivy!  Even the Christmas stripe-y dachshund carried a wreath for hanging.

We had a fun day today!

Patience’s ensemble (SOLD) and Millie’s ensemble are currently available on my website.  Sugar, Amelia Thimble, and Rose’s will be available this coming weekend and into next week.  Be sure to keep an eye out here and on Facebook if you are interested.

I hope that you are enjoying this first week of the holiday season.  I love this time before Christmas; there’s anticipatory magic in the air.

In Progress and Special Days

It’s been a strange month, or it feels that way, as far as my makings go.  I haven’t had one new thing to show you all month, and we are 3/4 of the way through!  I’ve not been idle, however.  I’ve been working away on Christmas/holiday ensembles.  So far, I have two for the Little Darlings completed with another two in the works for them.  My 11″ Kaye Wiggs Millie is getting something, and of course, my new 10″ Boneka Rose will get a holiday dress too.  After that, I am planning on making something for Patience, Puki Puki, Patsy, and Gracie.  Fingers crossed that I don’t run out of time.

In progress . . .

I desperately wanted to add these bright foil lined red beads to the white lace; they picked up the bright red edge in the ribbon perfectly.  The only problem was that all of the seams on the dress were sewn up, and I didn’t want stitching to show through to the lining.  With care, I was able to keep the hand stitching thread between the lace and lining.  I am knitting a fuzzy mohair/silk sweater for this dress in pure white.

I finished the hand sewing on Millie’s dress this morning.  Do you also feel like you get bonus time when you get up in darkness and get right to work?  I got Millie’s dress 100% done early this morning:  hand sewing, snaps, buttons, and belt loops.  Yay!  This dress is made out of a tiny snowman print, and Millie would love one of those needle felted snowmen that I made last year.  I actually want to take a day next week and make a “bunch” of them.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy hubby and I celebrated our 25th anniversary on Monday.  We spent the day in downtown Chicago at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Any works of art with sewing catches my eye.  This painting from around the year 1900 depicts Renoir’s 4-5 year old son sewing.  I guess it was the fashion for young boys to have long hair.  It’s gorgeous, isn’t it?

Afterwards, we stopped at a restaurant called Cindy’s.  The balcony overlooks Millenium Park, Lake Michigan, and parts of the city.  You can see “the bean”, entitled Cloud Gate, above my head.  (Everyone here calls it “the bean”.)  You can also see some of the trees with their leaves changing color.  Everything still looks (and feels) pretty summery.

Today is my hubby’s birthday.  We’re hoping to include our daughter in “present opening” via FaceTime.
