“Christmas Snow”

Magical Christmas snow is what Patience is hoping for this year.  There is most definitely something wonderful about having snow on Christmas, and when it’s actually falling on Christmas Eve, well, that’s that’s pure magic.

Patience is wearing a dress made out of a colorful snowflake and stars print:  aqua, warm green, silver grey, and deep red.  A deep red organza ribbon sash is the perfect accent color for this set.

Patience’s cardigan is knit Santa Claus style with “fur” trim at the neckline, sleeve cuffs, and hemline.  I’ve used a favorite aqua heather merino lace yarn for the body, and mohair/silk lace for the trim.

Embellishing handwork in the form of embroidered snowflakes, “icy” (clear) seed beads, and vintage red bugle beads (they pick up the dots on the dress) decorate the sweater in the front as well as the back.  Bright red glass beads button the cardigan, if desired.

Patience’s needle felted snowman is made by me out of wool roving.  He wears a tiny hand knit (in the round) deep red (merino/silk yarn) elf hat with an aqua tassel.  His scarf is aqua wool yarn looped around his neck.  Seed beads are carefully sewn on to give this snowman the perfect face and buttons.  Patience has named her snowman Magic because of magical Christmas snow, of course.

Patience’s other accessories include:  a matching red organza ribbon bow hair tie, deep red rayon tights, and “minty” bracelet with a heart and snowflake dangle.

A New Arrival This Evening

It’s been 16 months since a new doll has come to live in my studio.  It wasn’t intentional, I simply wasn’t tempted by any dolls.  That is, until September 25, when I got an email from Happily Ever After.  What a surprise!  They were now selling Dianna Effner sculpted 10″ Boneka dolls.  It took me about 15 minutes to choose one, and get mine ordered!

Rose arrived today, much sooner than expected, and I must say that there’s nothing like a new doll to bring a smile to my face.

She was snuggled in this padded cotton bag with an appliquéd heart and metal eyelets for the ribbon drawstring.

Although not hand painted, Rose is as cute as the Little Darlings, but smaller.  She’s such a tiny, petite thing, simply adorable.

I introduced Rose to Ivy, a gift from Carolyn at Warm Heart Bears.  Since they are both the new kids, they have something in common, and have become fast friends.

Rose has yet to meet her Little Darling cousins.  She’s a little worn out from her travels.  I’ll save those introductions for another day.

Bye for now!

I’m Finished with my July work! and “Summer Meadow”

It’s hard to believe, yes it is!  I feel like I’ve been working on these 6 projects—well, all month long!  Having 6 doll outfits in the works all at once was an interesting experiment, and one I will most likely not repeat.  I did not work any more efficiently, which is why I tried it in the first place.  And, this experiment made my creating seem like work.  When I work one-at-a-time, or almost that way, I enjoy the process so much more.  The only task that I enjoyed doing all at once was the embroidery.  I found once I got into embroidery mode I happily worked from one sweater to the next although it took the same amount of time!

So without further ado . . . my first Little Darling, Gina, is here to show you her new ensemble.

Gina’s drop waist styled dress is made with a pure white cotton floral print.  The blossoms are in clear and simple colors: blue, red, green, pink, yellow gold with black outlining.  A blue organza ribbon ties around the waistline and the hemline is prettied up with white cotton edging.

Gina is wearing a hand knit blue bamboo cardigan.  This shade of blue is sort of nautical, sort of periwinkle, kind of in-between.  At any rate, it matches the blue in the dress print.  I chose to stick with white embroidery to keep the look crisp and clean.  I’ve never embroidered with only one color before, and I like the result; it keeps things from getting too busy.  It also keeps the colorful focus on the dress.  The sweater can be worn open, or buttoned with the white gemstone bead buttons.

Gina’s cutting basket is crocheted with natural hemp in the shape of a typical cutting basket.  It has a braided handle with a silk bow.  After a visit to a nearby meadow, Gina picked flowers to match the flowers in her dress, clever girl!  Her blossoms are kept together with a  clear elastic, but can be rearranged, or put in a little vase.

Gina is wearing a crocheted beret made with white bamboo.  It features a mix of crochet stitches for interest, and it frames her cute doll face perfectly!

White cotton anklets, panties, and a bracelet complete the look.
